Mahan Family Foundation

Make a Donation Go

Established by:  Ralph D. Mahan

Established on:  March 25, 1991

Purpose of the fund:  The primary purpose of the Fund shall be for general charitable purposes.

Background:  Mr. Ralph Mahan is not only a native of Ventura County (his family heritage in the county goes back 143 years), but is also a founding board member of the Ventura County Community Foundation.  Mr. Mahan belongs to one of the founding families of Moorpark and Simi Valley dating back to the 1880’s when Samuel Mahan and Henry Mahan farmed these communities.

Mr. Mahan’s community involvement is evidenced by his decades of service to Ventura County.  He has served on the board of various organizations including, La Reina High School Development, Museum of Ventura County and the Ventura County Fish and Game Commission.  Giving back to the community appears to be tradition in the Mahan family, as Mahan’s great-great-grandfather, John Mahan, established the Pleasant Valley School District in 1868.

Mr. Mahan has continued the tradition of giving by establishing four funds at the Ventura County Community Foundation, the first of which is the Mahan Family Foundation.  Mr. Mahan explains, “My wife (Georgia) and I were looking for an organization which would assist us in our desire to support worthy community causes.”
