Memorial Funds

A gift in memory of someone can last forever

Establish a Memorial Fund at the Ventura County Community Foundation
A fund in honor of someone important to you – family members, colleagues, and friends – will show your respect and regard into the future. Memorial funds can be created to provide scholarships, to make grants to local nonprofits, to sustain the work of particular organizations, or support the work of the Community Foundation – all in honor of that special person.

Honor a family member, valued colleague or friend through the establishment of a fund in their name, or by making a gift to the Memorial Fund at the Ventura County Community Foundation.

Make a Memorial Gift
Memorial gifts in honor of someone special can be made in the following way:

  • Annual Contribution - to support VCCF’s current year budget
  • Endowment – to strengthen the endowment of a VCCF program or local nonprofit, providing long term stability
  • Named Fund - $10,000 gift or multiyear pledge to the endowment of a VCCF Field of Interest Fund will receive permanent recognition, and expand future grantmaking

The Ventura County Community Foundation Memorial Fund

  • Annual grantmaking on community priority needs, as determined by the VCCF Board.
  • Acknowledgements of the memorial gift accompany distribution of the grant.
  • Named Fund Status for gifts in excess of $10,000 to the Memorial Fund endowment

Memorial Funds at VCCF
There are several ways that you can use a Memorial fund to establish a philanthropic vehicle to support nonprofit organizations.

  • A pass through gift which is recognized in the year the gift is made.
  • Establishment of an endowment fund that allows a nonprofit organization to receive operating support in perpetuity, honoring someone’s passion or lifetime accomplishments, and ensuring that person’s legacy will continue at a favorite nonprofit.
  • A named fund (initiated through a contribution or pledge of at least $10,000 to a specific VCCF fund) that lasts in perpetuity and helps support important causes in Ventura County.

Current options include:

  • Destino: The Hispanic Legacy Fund, the only endowment fund dedicated to meeting the needs and creating philanthropic and leadership opportunities for Latinos in Ventura County.
  • The Women’s Legacy Fund, the only permanent endowment fund to address the needs of women and girls in Ventura County
  • Cornerstone Funds established by VCCF to accelerate and multiply the base of permanent philanthropy in Ventura County through VCCF programs.
  • Heritage Fund, established to provide an enduring source of capital for grantmaking to capture, preserve and honor the heritage of Ventura County.
  • Scholarship Funds, created by individuals, corporations and organizations to assist students in their pursuit of higher education, focus on a particular area of interest, or get training in the workforce. Local nonprofit endowment.
  • Community Response Fund to address community priorities through grantmaking, today and in the future.

Perpetuating Memories
VCCF staff can assist you in making your gift in honor of or in memory of that important person for a cause that is important to you and/or that person. Visible recognition will happen with the gift in the Foundation’s annual listings and in the distribution of grant dollars.
