Adelante! A Conversation with Jose Negrete – Photo Gallery

The Ventura County Community Foundation welcomed former Adelante II Scholarship student Jose Negrete to the VCCF Nonprofit Center for a conversation about his journey from Oxnard all the way to the United Nations. The talk brought volunteer scholarship readers, donors, students, teachers, and VCCF community members to hear Jose’s story and see firsthand how the VCCF scholarship program changes lives.

Jose faced adversity and barriers in his early schooling years growing up in the La Colonia neighborhood of Oxnard, but with the help of his educators and local mentors (some of whom joined us in the audience), he was able to overcome his challenges and follow his dreams of reaching the United Nations. Today, he serves as a project intern at Beyond Lab and is a second-year graduate student in the MINT program at the Geneva Graduate Institute. He is inspired by the city that raised him and hopes to use his research and policy work to move towards a more sustainable future that empowers everyone, especially the youth, to make an impact on their community.
