Nuestros queridos donantes de becas
La VCCF agradece de nuevo a nuestros donantes su generoso apoyo a nuestros estudiantes del condado de Ventura. Porque creen en el poder de nuestros estudiantes para perseguir sus sueños y crear un futuro mejor para el condado de Ventura, han hecho posible el increíble impacto de nuestro programa de becas.
Todas y cada una de nuestras becas representan un cambio de vida para nuestros estudiantes. Estamos realmente impresionados por todos y cada uno de vosotros, y por todo vuestro duro trabajo. Toda la comunidad de la VCCF está muy orgullosa de vosotros, entre la superación de los retos personales y el crecimiento más allá de los contratiempos de la pandemia de Covid-19. Es un honor para la VCCF, nuestros numerosos y generosos donantes que hacen posible esta ayuda, y los voluntarios de nuestro comité de selección de becas, estar a vuestro lado, mientras trabajáis para alcanzar vuestros sueños educativos.

Nuestro comité de selección
Estamos inmensamente agradecidos por la dedicación de nuestro comité de recogida de becas. Esta temporada, nuestros increíbles voluntarios leyeron más de 6.000 solicitudes de 980 candidatos. De media, cada voluntario leyó 60 solicitudes, lo que suma un total de miles de horas colectivas trabajando para ayudar a nuestros estudiantes a alcanzar sus sueños académicos. Nada de esto sería posible sin vuestro incansable servicio, y una vez más queremos daros las gracias a todos por lo que hacéis.
A letter from our scholarship director, Kirsti Thompson
What an incredible year for the VCCF Scholarship Program! In the last 11 months, our major goal has been to take a closer look at the systems we use to administer this program and work to improve and streamline those systems and related processes, as the program continues to grow each year. We want to be able to scale this work and give our team more time to be in the field recruiting new partners and broaden our application pool. One of the biggest changes we made was to really leverage our technology to lighten the administrative burden of this program, and it has paid off!!! We are now using our online scholarship platform to confirm scholarship awards and collect required paperwork from students. This simple change has not only saved many, many trees, but staff time, postage and scholarship processing time. In July 2023, we were able to process and mail more than 100 scholarship checks to colleges and universities throughout the country. This is a huge improvement over the past years. The other priority we are working on is a “deep dive” audit on our scholarship portfolios. I want to send a very special thank you to my partner in this work, Tracy Tagawa, VCCF’s Compliance Director. While at times it felt like were drinking from the firehose, we stuck together, learned a lot, and at times and laughed out loud after finishing each other’s sentences. Finally, I want to thank another fantastic partner in this work, our Scholarship Coordinator Emily Marostica, who started with us in January. Emily picked this work up in no time, and her database knowledge is incredible. She comes to work each day with a smile and a can-do spirit, and I am so thankful for her partnership in this work.
