This has been a long and difficult week for California – with the mass shooting in Thousand Oaks and massive wildfires ravaging both Northern and Southern California. We mourn the loss of life and the incredible damage wrought by these disasters and know it will take years to rebuild from them. Northern California fire resources are available aquí. In partnership with the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, the League of California Community Foundations, and the United Philanthropy Forum, we will host a webinar for funders tomorrow, November 13th at 10:00 am (PST). Details below.
We have become aware of many scam crowdfunding sites that claim to be helping victims of the mass shooting but are in fact going to gun advocacy groups in disguise. Unfortunately, this has become all-too-common in places where mass shootings take place. As such, please be careful about where you give and help direct donors to sources with a record of service.
We hope funders can come together to support the communities affected by these disasters.

Fires in Northern and Southern California have caused 31 deaths and forced and mass evacuations. The Camp Fire, the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in modern California history is only 25 percent contained in the north where 6,500 homes are destroyed.
The Woolsey and Hill Fires in Los Angeles and Ventura have sent 265,000 people from their homes and is only five percent contained. In addition to the destruction of 180 homes in Malibu, residents in Thousand Oaks are facing dual tragedies—a massacre at a country music bar followed immediately by the Woolsey fire.
