Un don anonyme de $1 million au 805 UndocuFund - COVID-19 donnera un coup de pouce important aux travailleurs sans papiers qui ont besoin d'une aide financi\u00e8re pendant la pand\u00e9mie. Plus de 7 000 personnes des comt\u00e9s de Santa Barbara et de Ventura se sont inscrites pour obtenir de l'aide apr\u00e8s avoir perdu leur emploi ou leurs heures de travail.<\/p>\n

\"Nous sommes ravis de ce don g\u00e9n\u00e9reux qui nous permettra d'aider plus de 800 familles\", a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Eder Gaona-Macedo, directeur ex\u00e9cutif de Future Leaders of America - l'un des nombreux groupes \u00e0 but non lucratif qui g\u00e8rent le fonds de secours. \"Il s'agit du don le plus important fait au Fonds depuis sa cr\u00e9ation en 2018 !\"<\/p>\n

Ce don anonyme porte le total des fonds collect\u00e9s pour venir en aide aux immigrants sans papiers en cas de pand\u00e9mie \u00e0 $2,6 millions - avec $3,4 millions suppl\u00e9mentaires n\u00e9cessaires pour atteindre l'objectif de collecte de fonds de $6 millions. Les candidats au Fonds ont perdu leur emploi dans des restaurants locaux, des h\u00f4tels, des bars, des fermes et d'autres entreprises. De nombreuses personnes qui gagnent leur vie en faisant le m\u00e9nage se sont \u00e9galement retrouv\u00e9es au ch\u00f4mage en raison des mandats de distanciation sociale.<\/p>\n

\"Les familles n'ont pas travaill\u00e9 depuis la mi-mars, n'ont pas pay\u00e9 leur loyer et se sentent d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9es de ne pas pouvoir se procurer les produits de base, y compris les produits alimentaires et les factures de services publics\", a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 M. Eder. \"Le UndocuFund envoie actuellement $1 200 ch\u00e8ques aux personnes qui ont perdu leur emploi.<\/p>\n

The 805 UndocuFund launched in 2018 to help immigrants in the aftermath of the Thomas Fire and Montecito Debris Flow. The Fund distributed close to $2 million to 1,300 families, some of whom lost homes, while many more lost employment or wages for weeks at a time. Since then, the Fund supported immigrants following other fires in the region.<\/p>\n

The 805UndocuFund is a partnership among organizations known to and trusted by many undocumented residents: Future Leaders of America (FLA), Mixteco\/Indigenous Community Organizing Project (MICOP), and Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE). The Ventura County Community Foundation (VCCF) provides fundraising and fund administrative support, while the McCune Foundation provides leadership support.
\nSpanish-speaking staff and more than 60 volunteers process applications and verify loss of employment for applicants. Volunteers who speak indigenous languages are also crucial to the effort.<\/p>\n

More than 700 individuals have donated to the UndocuFund, including several prominent community members who contributed their federal stimulus checks. Dozens of foundations have also funded the project, including grants to cover all operating costs. Major foundation contributors include the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Libra Foundation, and Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees.<\/p>\n
