Adriana’s Story

“This grant was a big relief for me because I am a single mother with 2 young daughters and am having trouble working and trying to keep my family safe at the same time. Being a single mom, I still have to go to work during this pandemic picking strawberries. Due to working very few hours, I could not keep up with the rent until I received the check. Thank you!”

Wildfire Recovery Funds

April 9, 2021 | 9:00 am to 9:45 am

WATCH RECORDING NOW

Three years have passed since the Thomas Fire changed the face of Ventura County, and more than two years since the Hill and Woolsey wildfires blazed across Ventura and Los Angeles counties. We have learned first hand how disaster recovery continues long after the initial intense focus on meeting the most acute needs for emergency housing, medical support, and much more.

In this mid-term and long-term phase of recovery, we have hundreds of residents who are working through rebuilding, rehoming, and managing debts that accumulated due to fire-related unemployment and/or recovery expenses. It is also the nature of certain post-traumatic mental and health issues that they arise only after a period of time, and we continue to see fire victims who have been struggling on their own and are now stepping forward for the first time to ask for support. Join us to learn more about how long-term recovery funding enables fire victims to receive targeted, personalized support for their particular needs.

Speakers include:
  • Anne Whatley, Facilitator, Ventura County Long Term Disaster Recovery Group
  • Kirsti Thompson, Director, Give-An-Hour California
  • Megan Glynn, Chief Development Officer, Southeast Ventura County YMCA
  • Marni Brook, Director of Lending, Women’s Economic Ventures
  • Scott Hansen, Senior Vice President, Regional Managing Director, Wells Fargo Wealth Management
  • Vanessa Bechtel, Presidents & CEO, Ventura County Community Foundation
