VCCFがベンチュラ・ランド・トラストを訪問

by Daniel Whitworth, VCCF Marketing Intern

The Ventura County Community Foundation had the opportunity to visit the Ventura Land Trust as part of the ongoing Environmental Listening Tour to learn about the incredible work they do for our local environment. VLT protects the natural beauty of Ventura County and ensures it can be enjoyed for generations to come by stewarding our land and promoting biodiversity for a sustainable future. They are responsible for protecting over 3,800 acres of land and were kind enough to give a tour of the Harmon Canyon Preserve.

Established in 2020, the Harmon Canyon Preserve is Ventura’s first large-scale nature preserve. It is great for hiking with 2,100 acres featuring breathtaking views of Southern Californian mountain ranges and coastlines. Every new addition to the park such as hiking trails is done with sustainability in mind to preserve a beautiful environment for people to enjoy for many years to come.

VLT works not only on the land but also to educate and connect with the community about the importance of protecting the environment. They do this through several educational programs designed to help people connect with nature. Different programs are tailored to different ages from adults to young children. One program offered is the Environmental Speaker series for those who would like to learn more about nature and how to protect it. You can learn more about these programs at the VLT Events Page.

On Earth Day, April 22, 2022, Ventura Land Trust will kick off the the public phase of their capital campaign for the Harmon Canyon Preserve. The funding will be used for amenities such as trails and benches as well as ongoing stewardship, and you can click here to donate. VLT is also always looking for volunteers, and opportunities can be found on their Volunteer Opportunities Page. For more information, contact [email protected] or visit their website.
