Many of you have reached out to see how you might best be able to help those affected by the most recent tragedies.\u00a0The nonprofit organizations listed below are partners we know and trust, and they are working diligently to help.\u00a0We are happy to connect you if of interest anytime.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><em>The San Antonio Area Foundation and the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country have partnered to open the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/saafdn.fcsuite.com\/erp\/donate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Uvalde Strong Fund and the Uvalde Strong Survivors Fund<\/a>\u00a0to support affected families and the nonprofits providing immediate and long-term support to the community.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo has opened the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.buffalotogetherfund.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buffalo Together Community Response Fund.<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The Council on Foundations has created a page of resources about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cof.org\/news\/philanthropys-response-gun-violence-and-mass-shootings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">philanthropy\u2019s response to gun violence and mass shootings.<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<p><em>If we can be of further support to you, please don\u2019t hesitate to reach out.\u00a0We are here for you.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u656c\u5177<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Jeffrey<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u30b8\u30a7\u30d5\u30ea\u30fc\u30fb\u30e9\u30f3\u30d0\u30fc\u30c8\u3001VCCF\u6700\u9ad8\u57f7\u884c\u8cac\u4efb\u8005<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u89aa\u611b\u306a\u308b\u30d9\u30f3\u30c1\u30e5\u30e9\u90e1\u30b3\u30df\u30e5\u30cb\u30c6\u30a3\u8ca1\u56e3\u306e\u7686\u69d8\u3001<\/p>\n<p>This morning, as I listened to the album\u00a0<em>Tea for the Tillerman<\/em>\u00a0by Cat Stevens, I thought of you.\u00a0Recently, I learned that Stevens created his 1970 album after recuperating from tuberculosis at the young age of 22.\u00a0Quite timely, I came across this fact during my own recent struggle with a more difficult case of Covid-19.\u00a0I must say I found such peace in Stevens\u2019 music during my recovery process, and, as we lift up\u00a0<strong>Mental Health Awareness Month<\/strong>, I encourage us all to\u00a0<strong>celebrate the power of the arts to heal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Angelina\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Lea\u00f1os<\/strong><strong>, local Youth Poet Laureate<\/strong>, captured this powerful relationship between our emotional wellbeing and the arts in\u00a0<strong>her exquisite poem &#8220;<em>Art, Mi Amor<\/em>.&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0Reading\u00a0Lea\u00f1os\u2019 moving piece reminds me that we have such a wealth of\u00a0<strong><em>local<\/em><\/strong> talent in our community. In high school, she won the\u00a0<strong>Poetry Out Loud<\/strong>\u00a0competition at both the school and county levels and has since returned as a recitation coach for Ventura County. Millions of Americans live with mental illness, and this month&#8217;s goal\u00a0are\u00a0fighting the stigma of talking about mental health, providing\u00a0support for those experiencing mental illness, educating the public, and advocating for policies that support those living with mental illness.<\/p>\n<p>The need for these changes have become even more evident over the last two years during the pandemic. In 2021, Interface served more than 12,000 Ventura County residents in need of mental health or trauma treatment. This year,\u00a0<strong>over $1,417,700 in scholarship awards<\/strong>\u00a0are being sent out to\u00a0<strong>318 individual students<\/strong>, with a total of\u00a0<strong>461 scholarship awards this year<\/strong>. Congratulations to all of the brilliant, talented and hardworking students who have persisted in pursuing their education in the midst of a pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s awards are an incredible trend from $1.05 million for 227 students in 2019, and the giving has only increased since then\u00a0<strong>thanks to the life-changing generosity of VCCF&#8217;s scholarship donors<\/strong>\u00a0who continue to lift up the future of Ventura County.<\/p>\n<p>While students wrap up their semesters and head off for their summer vacations, the\u00a0<strong>VCCF Scholarship team<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Scholarship Director Dr. Cristina Miranda and Scholarship Assistant Malena McKaba<\/strong>, have been working tirelessly to finish this season and send out this year&#8217;s scholarships. The Canine Adoption Rescue League, which manages the center, is an all-breed, no-kill dog rescue and adoption nonprofit, and its mission is to advocate for animal welfare, seeking to end the needless deaths of companion animals through their adoption, education, and outreach programs.
