Many of you have reached out to see how you might best be able to help those affected by the most recent tragedies.\u00a0The nonprofit organizations listed below are partners we know and trust, and they are working diligently to help.\u00a0We are happy to connect you if of interest anytime.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n If we can be of further support to you, please don\u2019t hesitate to reach out.\u00a0We are here for you.<\/em><\/p>\n \u656c\u5177<\/em> \u89aa\u611b\u306a\u308b\u30d9\u30f3\u30c1\u30e5\u30e9\u90e1\u30b3\u30df\u30e5\u30cb\u30c6\u30a3\u8ca1\u56e3\u306e\u7686\u69d8\u3001<\/p>\n This morning, as I listened to the album\u00a0Tea for the Tillerman<\/em>\u00a0by Cat Stevens, I thought of you.\u00a0Recently, I learned that Stevens created his 1970 album after recuperating from tuberculosis at the young age of 22.\u00a0Quite timely, I came across this fact during my own recent struggle with a more difficult case of Covid-19.\u00a0I must say I found such peace in Stevens\u2019 music during my recovery process, and, as we lift up\u00a0Mental Health Awareness Month<\/strong>, I encourage us all to\u00a0celebrate the power of the arts to heal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Angelina\u00a0<\/strong>Lea\u00f1os<\/strong>, local Youth Poet Laureate<\/strong>, captured this powerful relationship between our emotional wellbeing and the arts in\u00a0her exquisite poem “Art, Mi Amor<\/em>.”<\/strong>\u00a0Reading\u00a0Lea\u00f1os\u2019 moving piece reminds me that we have such a wealth of\u00a0local<\/em><\/strong> talent in our community. Without a doubt,\u00a0Ventura County is a leader in the nation for creativity<\/strong>, being recently named one of the\u00a0Top 10 Most Arts-Vibrant Mid-Sized Communities in the U.S.<\/a><\/p>\n Please help spread the word on the many ways to enjoy the arts in our community, including seeing live performances at\u00a0Teatro\u00a0<\/a>in downtown Oxnard;\u00a0plays at\u00a0Rubicon Theatre Company<\/a>;\u00a0live music at the\u00a0Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Theatres<\/a>\u00a0\u305d\u3057\u3066\u00a0Oxnard Performing Arts Center<\/a>; compelling exhibits at\u00a0Studio Channel Islands<\/a>\u305d\u306e\u00a0Museum of\u00a0Ventura County<\/a>\u305d\u3057\u3066\u00a0\u30b5\u30f3\u30bf\u30fb\u30dd\u30fc\u30e9\u7f8e\u8853\u9928<\/a>;\u00a0and more!\u00a0Most of these treasured nonprofit organizations sponsor community days and ways to participate regardless of financial means.<\/p>\n Finally, I\u2019d like to recognize\u00a0Ventura County Board of Supervisors for their recent approval of a new Arts and Culture Manager<\/strong>. This exciting leadership position will be committed to helping our local arts organizations thrive and connect with government funding opportunities.\u00a0We believe this position couldn\u2019t be more important to the health and vibrancy of our community.<\/p>\n \u3088\u308d\u3057\u304f\u3001 <\/p>\n \u898b\u308b\u00a02020-2021 Ventura County Youth Poet Laureate Angelina read her powerful poem “Art, Mi Amor,<\/em>“<\/strong>\u00a0a moving piece about the importance of the arts in our world and lives.<\/p>\n Angelina is\u00a0a student at California Lutheran University. In high school, she won the\u00a0Poetry Out Loud<\/strong>\u00a0competition at both the school and county levels and has since returned as a recitation coach for Ventura County. She is a\u00a0board member for the Ventura County Arts Council<\/strong>\u00a0and is also the\u00a0youngest poet in California Poets in the Schools’ history<\/strong>\u00a0on their Board of Directors.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n As we wrap up May, we’d like to celebrate National Mental Heath Awareness Month. Millions of Americans live with mental illness, and this month’s goal\u00a0are\u00a0fighting the stigma of talking about mental health, providing\u00a0support for those experiencing mental illness, educating the public, and advocating for policies that support those living with mental illness.<\/p>\n The need for these changes have become even more evident over the last two years during the pandemic. In 2021, Interface served more than 12,000 Ventura County residents in need of mental health or trauma treatment. This is why VCCF supports Interface Children & Family Services\u2019 mental health and trauma treatment programs.Learn More<\/p>\n <\/p>\n VCCF is proud to announce that we will be sending out our 2022 scholarships to hundreds of bright and deserving students across the county! This year,\u00a0over $1,417,700 in scholarship awards<\/strong>\u00a0are being sent out to\u00a0318 individual students<\/strong>, with a total of\u00a0461 scholarship awards this year<\/strong>. Congratulations to all of the brilliant, talented and hardworking students who have persisted in pursuing their education in the midst of a pandemic.<\/p>\n This year’s awards are an incredible trend from $1.05 million for 227 students in 2019, and the giving has only increased since then\u00a0thanks to the life-changing generosity of VCCF’s scholarship donors<\/strong>\u00a0who continue to lift up the future of Ventura County.<\/p>\n While students wrap up their semesters and head off for their summer vacations, the\u00a0VCCF Scholarship team<\/strong>,\u00a0Scholarship Director Dr. Cristina Miranda and Scholarship Assistant Malena McKaba<\/strong>, have been working tirelessly to finish this season and send out this year’s scholarships. We thank you both for your hard work!<\/p>\n And a final\u00a0thank you to the VCCF Scholarship Committee<\/strong>. These volunteers made it possible for VCCF and our donors to award nearly $1.4 million in scholarships to our local students. The Canine Adoption Rescue League, which manages the center, is an all-breed, no-kill dog rescue and adoption nonprofit, and its mission is to advocate for animal welfare, seeking to end the needless deaths of companion animals through their adoption, education, and outreach programs.
