Many nonprofit organizations immediately stepped up their services, whether or not their budgets could withstand the cost, including ours, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme.

We opened the club to our community while schools were closed, allowing parents to work, saving them from lost income. We prevented kids and teens in all five school districts in Oxnard and Port Hueneme from being home unsupervised or on the streets amid poor air quality.

As we pitched to help, so did the Ventura County Community Foundation. We are grateful to the VCCF for quickly granting a vital $7,700 to cover our unbudgeted costs of opening during this period. In addition, the VCCF granted funds to many organizations who risked financial stability to help victims.

The VCCF has recognized the impact our services had on the community and is helping to cover costs to ensure our nonprofits can “stay in business,” helping the people who need it most. I want to commend the VCCF for its quick action to help our community at a very vulnerable time.

Editor: The author is CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme.

Erin Antrim, Oxnard

[22

post-2584","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-coverage
["GET
