If you are watching the heartbreak and devastation of the California wildfires and want to pitch in and help…and earn United miles… here’s your chance.

Today United set up a crowd funding page to award up to 5 million bonus miles to those donating $50 or more to the campaign. Members earn 250 miles for donations of $50-$99, 500 miles for donations of $100-$249 and 1,000 miles for donations over $250. All funds will go toward efforts to support affected communities in California.

When making your donation on the Crowdrise page, you are given the option of donating to the North Valley Gemeinschaftsstiftung (in Chico, near the northern California Camp fire) or to the Ventura County Gemeinschaftsstiftung (near the Woolsey and Hill fires in Southern California) or to the American Red Cross.

You’ll be asked to enter your United MileagePlus number on the second screen after you’ve selected your cause and entered your billing information. Don’t forget to add it as I almost did!

United has already primed the pump by donating $150,000 to the three organizations as well as offering to fly first responders within California.

“United is deeply connected to the affected communities and with a profound sense of both sadness and duty during this difficult time, we are proud to offer our assistance,” said Janet Lamkin, United’s president for California. “We will continue to engage our generous customers, employees and MileagePlus members and work with local leadership to support all those affected by these devastating fires.”

“The outpouring of support is immense and amid the flames and smoke it is a ray of light. We are so grateful to United Airlines for immediately responding with care and support,” said Alexa Benson-Valavanis, president and CEO of North Valley Community Foundation.

In addition to its help with relief efforts, United is waiving change fees and fare differences on flights to, from or through Los Angeles International Airport, Hollywood Burbank Airport and San Francisco International Airport. Customers may reschedule their itineraries for travel through Nov. 25
