The deadline is approaching for victims of the Borderline Bar and Grill shooting to apply for help from the Conejo Valley Victims Fund.

The entirety of the fund, administered by the Ventura County Community Foundation and established in conjunction with the City of Thousand Oaks and other entities, will be used to assist the families who lost loved ones, the victims who were physically injured and those present inside the Borderline Bar & Grill the night of Nov. 7, when the shooting occurred. Already, the VCCF has paid out $310,000 in cash assistance and $500 prepaid Visa cards.

As the foundation enters the final stages of fund distribution, it has set a deadline for those eligible for funds to complete an application at ConejoValleyVictimsFund.org: Mon., Feb. 18.

The payments from the fund are to be apportioned in accordance with the severity of the injury to the victims, foundation president Vanessa Bechtel said in a Dec. 21 letter.

In addition, VCCF will host two public forums to give concerned community members and those affected by the Borderline shooting an opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions about the draft final protocol which will determine the process and distribution protocols for awarding financial support to qualified applicants.

The full draft can be viewed at ConejoValleyVictimsFund.org.

The meetings will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 3 at the Scherr Forum at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. Feedback can also be submitted via email at [email protected].

The final distribution protocol will be developed by a special oversight committee, incorporating the feedback, and is subject to approval by the foundation, Bechtel said.

In addition to the fund distribution meetings, national mental health nonprofit organization Give an Hour will host three clinics where eligible claimants can receive direct support in completing their applications and accessing resources to support their recovery. The nonprofit is partnering with VCCF to lead efforts to provide mental health, emotional and case management support.

Clinics will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Mon., Jan. 14, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wed., Jan 16 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat., Jan. 19. For location and more information, call (805) 444- 7519 or email [email protected].
