Red Cross Update: Winter Storm
The message below was sent to us by Kimberly Coley, Executive Director of the American Red Cross, Pacific Coast & Ventura County Chapters.
Friends,
As you know, we’re expecting a winter storm to move through the area and our community is at risk yet again. Our local Red Cross is ready to respond and we have staff/supplies in place. See below for a quick update as we head into the week:
- Landslide Threat for Santa Barbara & Ventura Counties: Press Releases with further detail (linked below)
Due to severe weather coming through the area, The Red Cross has opened several sites to support residents impacted by potential landslides and flooding:
Santa Barbara: An evacuation center has been open since 8am at Santa Barbara City College (in the cafeteria) at 721 Cliff Drive, Santa Barbara, CA 93101.
Ventura: A shelter has been opened at Ventura College, 4667 Telegraph Road, Ventura, CA 93003.
- Thomas Fire Recovery Efforts Continue: See the Press Release for further details
Since evacuation orders first lifted, the Red Cross has been there, helping families on the road to recovery. While we continue to work with families in both Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, the bulk of our casework has been in Ventura. As a result, we have expanded our recovery service center hours at our VCCU location:
Ventura County Credit Union, 6026 Telephone Rd., Ventura, CA 93003: Monday, January 8, 2018 through Friday, January 12, 2018 – 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
In addition to the service center, a public hotline has been set up for anyone who may have additional questions about what services are available: (512) 745-2920. Community members are also welcome to schedule an appointment with a caseworker if the days/location above do not work for them. Please help us spread the word to those who need support!
Thank you, as always, for supporting our team during this critical time. I’m really excited for the year ahead and look forward to working closely with each of you to create a stronger Red Cross in 2018!
With gratitude,
Kimberly
