TEACh Scholars Night
On Wednesday May 31, 2023, an evening recognizing the scholastic achievements of Ventura County foster youth ages 17 and older will be held at the Ventura Office of Education located at 5100 Adolfo Rd. in Camarillo.
Approximately 30 Ventura County foster youth will be honored at the event celebrating their educational achievements. Some are graduating high school this year and others will be continuing their progression in college. Students, guests, and community sponsors will attend this invitation only event. The TEACh Scholars Night is funded entirely by donations from individuals, agencies, businesses, Rotary Clubs, and nonprofits in Ventura County. The TEACh Scholarship committee is comprised of educational representatives, nonprofits, governmental agencies, and foster youth supporters. Partners in bringing the evening of honor to this year’s scholars, include Corwin-a Sage Company, the Ventura County Community Foundation, and the Ventura Office of Education.
The Honorary Chair for TEACh Scholars’ Night will be Matt LaVere, Ventura County Supervisor District 1.
The Keynote speaker this year will be Christopher Clark, a former TEACh recipient for Ventura County.
In addition to being awarded scholarships to their place of learning, the TEACh honorees will be awarded scholarship certificates from Assembly member Jacqui Irwin, California Senator Monique Limon, and the Ventura County Board of Supervisors. Additional awards include educational aides from the Ventura County Office of Education, Art Boxes donated by Artists for Trauma and gift cards from local nonprofits. All of the youth being honored have faced significant challenges in the transition out of foster care into self-care. Employment, education, housing, and transportation are needed and must typically be secured without the support of family members and TEACh provides a bridge to their moving forward in life. The youth being honored have learned to turn obstacles into opportunities.
